739063_truck_stuck_in_the_mudEver feel like you’re just spinning your wheels?  I know I do.  I get this picture of a car stuck in the mud, and I am sitting in it just pressing the gas out of frustration.  More and more the car goes deeper and deeper.  I know for me my first and biggest reaction is to do just that… react.  In my mind, at least I’m doing something!!

If you’ve seen any movie with a character stuck in quicksand, you know that the best way to get out of it is to be still and wait for help.  Funny… be still…  You gotta be kidding me!!!  I want control… I want to fix things… I want everything that I think I need (or my family needs) at the moment I think I need them…

It is interesting how stillness in the middle of craziness is encouraged in God’s word.  When the Israelites were running from the Egyptians, Moses had to remind them to  be still…  Exodus 14:13 says, “And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.’”  Egypt’s mighty army was rushing toward them with destruction in mind, and Moses is trying to get the people to remain calm and still.  Can you imagine being Moses, trying to communicate to that many people that everything is under control when everything looked like it was against them?   I know how I feel when things are not going the way that I think they should.  Inside, everything is in jumbles and aggravation.

Then it began…  The sea began to part…  Can you imagine what the people were thinking when one of the craziest miracles of all time happened before their eyes?  God was already working it out for them.

There’s a song by Chynna & Vaughn called “One Reason” that seems to hit this right on the money.  Here’s a little taste of some of the lyrics, “I’m a fighter and I don’t like to quit, but I got orders from heaven… It’s harder to do nothing than to do something… Jesus tell me again, what’s it gonna take to sink in, that you’re my one reason”   Sometimes it seems that I have to learn the same lesson over and over.  I hope that I will get this soon and not have to keep revisiting it…  When my focus is on Him, everything is in His hands, where it belongs.

Stand still…  Sounds easy…  Now if I can just get it through my thick skull… Be still, be still, be still…

I like this… you are a great writer and communicator of your thoughts. Don't stop…. keep following what God's telling you to do, even if it means "being still" in the process. ;)
